How headlines can deceive
The headline “Blacks denied home loans” in a recent Post & Courier article misrepresented the overall point of the article, which is that people with bad credit ratings are denied home loans. That they are black, 4 to 1, is secondary, and should not have been the headline. They could as easily have pointed out that “Under 30s denied home loans,” but that wouldn’t be as incendiary. Their editors need to watch for this kind of slant.
